Public Speaking

Students at our school are given opportunities for public speaking additional to those in the classroom.

In Term 1 the whole school participates in a poetry reciting competition, where finalists are provided with a certificate and the winner of each grade rewarded with a book pack.

During Term 2, students who choose to participate in the Ultimo Public Speaking Competition are given an opportunity to compete, firstly against each other and then the finalists from Woodland Road Public School compete at a regional level. The focus is on multiculturalism, with topics such as ‘Kids Can Make A Difference' and ‘Racism'.

A whole school public speaking competition is also held later in the year to encourage student's enjoyment of speaking in public. All students are expected to write and present a speech which is appropriate for their chosen audience, using a clear and audible voice.
